To start off drawing, we did a few exercises to break us in. First, Victoria talked to us about the importance of drawing from observations versus from observation so we tried drawing scissors from memory then using a real pair of scissors and continuously observing it whilst drawing. The photos below show the difference between memory and using observations (Right: memory , Left: observation). Drawing from memory is fine but studying from real life is very important to improve your drawing skills.
The next exercise was blind continuous line drawing, using branches with leaves. This exercise is where you only look at an object, without looking at the page and also not taking your pen off the page. The purpose of this is to loosen up your form and trust your hand to create a unique illustration. I really liked the way this turned out and how all the line overlap and think this style I'd like to play with this style more.
