Making a Camera.
For today's task we broke down what a camera is and concluded; a camera is made when light is reflected through a small opening onto a surface, to show whatever is on the other side . However, the image appears opposite down as there is no technology to flip is right side up, like the human eye does naturally. We first experimented this by using a cardboard box, with a small hole poked through the base, then a thin page taped in the middle of the box. When held to a light source an image will be directed onto the page - this is called camera obscura.
The diagram below shows camera obscura and what it was used for in the past. Many sketches/paintings were made via the artist sitting in a box with a small hole and traced over the projection. Some people speculate that Johannes Vermeer was guilty of this.

Albelardo Morell.Morell first discovered camera obscura in his own bedroom, projecting the neighbour's house upside-down onto their wall, using black plastic to cover all the light sources and then cut out a 9.53 mm hole. His first few attempts he didn't use the aid of any lens but once he was familiar with the technique, he started using lens to sharpen the image to resemble photos on the wall. Morell describes it as magic and through his new found passion decided that he needs to try this around the world, visiting different landmarks and staying in hotels to capture his photographs though exposures. Overall, Morell creates a new environment but indoors leaving a certain sense of fulfilment found through physics.

Final Images. Here are our final images, one from upstairs and then one from downstairs Castle House. We realised that upstairs wasn't dark enough and the shape of the room didn't allow the reflection to show very clearly so we went downstairs to a smaller room with a large flat wall and had better luck with the clarity of the reflection. To try and achieve a better photo, the camera setting was a slower shutter speed (TV). The last few images of the slideshow also show a few of our classmates standing outside beside the car (in a stripy shirt).
